HistoBest Inc., a research and manufacturing corporation, is dedicated to providing high quality histology products and services while striving to perfect products which aid in reducing animal usage in biomedical research.

HistoBest Inc. was incorporated in the fall of 2001. However, its proprietary technologies: Standardized Tissue Banking and Matrix Tissue Arraying  were developed and utilized since 1996 - the longest experience in this field (references).

Beneficiaries  and  methodology employed

  • Biomedical research1, monitoring of breeding stocks, food safety and traceability: cell and tissue banking2 and preservation3;

  • Standardized3 high throughput histology: “multi-use cell/tissue arrays” (patent pending4) ;

  • Replacement alternatives and reduction in the use of animals in biomedical research: “species on a slide”;

  • Facilitation of networking and integration of various scientists and institutions for a more humane5 approach in biomedical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic research;

  • Expeditious6 custom histological services: “project on a slide”, consulting7

  • Affordable and high quality teaching slides.

  • 1. Validation/enabling in: genomics, proteomics, phenomics and drug discovery, toxicology screening, metabolic profiling, etc.;

    2. One of the most comprehensive animal tissue banks in the world is presently available for ordering pre-made and customized tissue-arrays;

    3. Proprietary technology of cell/tissue processing provides remarkable preservation of: morphology, DNA integrity, antigenicity. This results in enhanced reproducibility and, more importantly, qualitative methods can be upgraded for quantitative applications;

    4. Fully customizable tissue arrays allow optimal speed, versatility, standardization and quality control. HistoBest’s standardized histological slides include, but are not limited to: topographic staining for clinical diagnostic, immuno)histochemistry, autoradiography, histoenzymology, in situ hybridization, in situ (RT)-PCR, etc. Additionally, a ten to one hundred fold reduction in cost is achieved for an extensive variety of applications. This technology made possible for the first time: i)  A superior technique for blocking loose cells (primary culture, cell lines); ii) the customization of the shape of the biopsy (very useful for rare/expensive specimens - eliminates waste); iii) Generation of arrays from tissues at any stage during histological processing (not requiring prior paraffin blocking);

    5. By increasing quality and reliability, avoiding duplications as well as by secondary use/recycling. This will lead to an improved public image for academic and industrial-based research (biomedical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, etc.);

    6. Generation of custom preparations within 48-72 hours;

    7. Significant economic advantage by freeing individual research laboratories from the need to conduct their own expensive and time consuming technique standardization.

    Notes

    • All HistoBest’s products are "green"/”recycled”. From the company's  inception the underlying philosophy was to extend the usefulness of laboratory animals after their primary experimental role was completed. In keeping with this philosophy Histobest neither endorses nor subscribes to sacrificing animals for the sole purpose of generating organs/tissues for histological preparations.

    • HistoBest Inc. does not endorse the generation of profit from the sale of human tissue.

    • Quality control: HistoBest’s is selling only microslides (or paraffin blocks) generated from tissues procured and processed in its own laboratories. All pre-made and customized slides -stained or unstained - come with their own unique code, accompanying scanned images and legend. After the completion of the sectioning process, all stained slides are microscopically inspected (and a number of them kept for reference). Only sections flanked by good quality slides will be released and sold.

    • A histological section is considered to be a “good slide” when the tissue/cellular architecture and morphology are consistent with an absence of pathology (ie. normal).

    • The fitness of the unstained slides for the particular application(s) employed by the end user or the manner they (i.e. applications) will be performed, are beyond HistoBest’s control.

    • HistoBest’s products are for research purposes only. HistoBest Inc. will not be held responsible for misuse of its products nor for any results generated from said products.
